Tennis club information & rules
With the courts experiencing high levels of use it seems an appropriate time to remind all tennis Members not only of the general useful information details that are available for Member's use but also of the Club rules and expected behaviours.

1)Guidance for Members & Frequently Asked Questions

Please find attached the latest Guidance for Members & Frequently Asked Questions documents that were previously circulated in April 2011.

2) Court booking system

We have now been operating the new court booking system for a couple of months and by in large it is operating pretty well. However, there are areas which we believe require further clarification to further facilitate the booking system's use. Please find attached the latest Instructions for Court Usage Board document that was previously circulated in May 2011

Further clarification on the booking system is given below, please note:

1)All Members are to bring their cards with them to the club at all times when wishing to play tennis. Why not keep it in your tennis racquet bag? You will probably be asked by a tennis committee or committee of management official to go home and pick up your card, if you are wanting to play or are playing, without your card with you.
2)Failure to bring your card and to place it in the rack on the Clubhouse wall may result in you being asked to leave the courts.
3)Those playing on the courts without booking the court on the board on the Clubhouse wall have no standing on the court. If others come along who have placed their cards in the board then they have the right to ask those who have not booked the courts to leave.
4)Booking is for 1 hour maximum slots only.
5)If there are two of you playing then two cards should be on the board. If there are four of you playing then four cards should be on the board. Failure to adhere to this may result in others who have their cards with them having priority on the courts.
6)No swapping of cards or courts or multiple booking across two or more courts is allowed.
7)Membership Cards mistakenly left in the rack overnight are held in an open box in the main bar area (on the right at the main door as you walk into the bar). Please retrieve them from there if you forget to pick them up after a game.

The booking system is the best way to make it a fair system for Juniors, Intermediates and Adults alike. Please use it and it will wok for us all.

4) Club Etiquette

Please will all members note the following existing rules and regulations that are in force at all times:
1)No jeans are allowed to be worn on the courts.
2)No sandals, bare feet, socks (only) or non tennis shoes allowed on the courts. Soft soled tennis shoes only please.
3)No jumping over tennis nets, please walk around the side of the net posts when changing ends.
4)No football tops or football bottoms or football strips or football colours of any sort to be worn by members or guests whilst inside the club grounds.
5)No gum or food to be chewed or eaten on the courts
6)No cycling allowed on club grounds. Please dismount at the entrance road at Chamberlain Road and at the East gate at Selborne Road.

In addition we ask that:
7)When there is a club match taking place, Juniors are asked not to play on the adjacent court.
8)On the court please do not walk by the fence behind other players playing a game. Either wait and use the nearest gate which involves not walking behind other matches or ask for permission at an appropriate point in their game. This is both a courtesy and more importantly it is a safety issue.
9)Please be aware that the white tape surrounding the bowling green is an electrified fence installed to keep foxes off the greens. Keep away as it can give you quite a jolt.
Again failure to adhere to these simple rules will probably result in you being asked to vacate the courts and/or premises by a tennis committee or committee of management official.

We are not trying to be draconian here; just ensuring that the club rules are followed, which will greatly contribute to ensuring continued enjoyment of our membership and use of Woodend's fine facilities.

Please could all parents and guardians pass the above and attached information on to children in the care.

If you have any questions at all then please do not hesitate to contact either myself or another member of the Tennis Committee or Committee of Management. We are more than happy to discuss.

Happy Summer Tennis to all.

Regards

Miles

How do I book a court?
A new court booking system is being piloted during 2011-12. Members should insert their membership card in the slot against the court number and set the time of the start of play. If all courts are full then members will be able to see the next available court and alert players to the fact that they are waiting for a court.

When the club is busy and players are waiting one hour maximum.

Normal court etiquette rules apply at Woodend eg closing court gates, no running onto another court to retrieve your ball when a rally is in progress, no shouting, spitting, swearing, firing balls into the netting, no leaning on the nets (strain on the end posts) etc the general rule being to respect others on court and look after the fabric of the grounds.
