We are delighted to welcome you as a continuing member or new member at Woodend Bowling & Lawn Tennis Club (WBLT). Membership offers great benefits with access to first class facilities including five all-weather courts, a junior all-weather court, bowling green, coaching and a fantastic clubhouse with bar, function hall and changing facilities.
We are a family-orientated club and our membership embraces all age groups. We encourage members of all ages to have fun through playing, whether it is on a social or competitive basis, and we also provide opportunities for all our members to develop their playing skills and their physical fitness by playing regularly.
The club is located in the heart of the Jordanhill community and, although we welcome members from outside the Jordanhill area, we do see ourselves as a community organisation and as an important part of life in Jordanhill. As well as our main sporting sections (bowling and tennis) Hillhead Hockey Club and Kelvin Runners are affiliated sports clubs which share the use of our clubhouse facilities. We also have a substantial number of “community” members, who use the clubhouse as a social meeting place. The club plays an active part in developing children’s’ interest in tennis and bowling and provides them with opportunities for play and coaching during school holidays.
Members of all ages have the same rights here and we expect everyone to demonstrate mutual respect and tolerance on the courts, bowling green, or elsewhere in the grounds and clubhouse. Equally, all members have a responsibility to abide by the rules of the club, and to take care of our facilities as well as the reputation of their sporting section and the club as a whole.
We aim to carry out our activities as a club in a socially and environmentally sustainable way. It is club policy to minimise waste and to recycle as much as is possible, and to carefully manage our use of energy. We look to our members to help the club achieve these objectives and welcome any constructive input members may have to help the club to do better.
The club is managed by a committee of management and each sports section has its own committee to look after the interests of the section. We would encourage all adult members to consider volunteering some of their time and skills to support the running of the club by helping look after the building and grounds or serving on one of the club committees.

CLUB RULESWBLT is a family friendly club dedicated to the support of sport across its membership. The guidance below aims to ensure that:
The health and safety of all is safeguarded
The needs of those playing on courts and greens are respected
There is consistency in understanding of what club membership means
USE OF CLUB HOUSEAccess to club house: There is controlled access to the clubhouse. There is controlled access to the clubhouse. Access fobs can be obtained by payment of a returnable deposit of £5. Requests for fobs should be made to the Membership Secretary. Fobs allow members to get in to the clubhouse during the day and evening. Junior members can be issued with fobs as well but this is on the strict understanding that parents are satisfied that their children are not exposed to undue risk by being allowed access to the clubhouse unsupervised and that their children know how to exit the building in an emergency. Parents need to be aware that the clubhouse in unmanned for significant periods of time and that during these times no adult supervision is available. Parents need to be aware that they are responsible for their children’s safety and conduct when using club facilities.
Security: the Selborne Road gate is kept locked at all times and members can access the club from this gate using a pin number . The security pin number changes regularly and the new number is emailed to members.
Membership cards: cards should be carried at all times and members should be prepared to show these whenever asked to do so.
Bar area: children are welcome to accompany their parents to the clubhouse. Whenever possible children should use the snug to purchase soft drinks from the hatch. Our alcohol license does not permit children to buy drinks over the main bar.
Bar opening times: the bar is open in winter Monday to Thursday 7.00pm- 11.00pm and in summer Monday to Thursday 6pm-11pm, with extended opening times on Friday and Saturday. See clubhouse notices for more details.
Young children should always be accompanied and supervised by an adult around the club and grounds.
Storage of sports equipment: members should keep the bar area clear of sports equipment; tennis and hockey bags should be stored in changing rooms or neatly against the wall in corridors.
USE OF COURTS, GREENS AND PUBLIC AREASJunior members should be clear about tennis etiquette before parents allow them to play on court without adult supervision e.g. closing court gate, avoiding disturbing games on adjoining courts etc
Dress code: members playing on courts or greens should wear the appropriate sports clothing and soft shoes at all times. Football colours are not permitted. The wearing of jeans is not permitted on the tennis courts.
Conduct: it is important that members should be considerate of others using the club and neighbours with respect to their language, noise and conduct when playing on the court or greens.
Use of bicycles and scooters: use of scooters or cycles is not permitted at any time around the club grounds to avoid disturbing games and in the interest of safety. Members are free to cycle to the club but should dismount in the car park and secure their cycles in the racks provided.
Play area: junior members not on court are permitted to play only on the grassy area situated at the front of the club house and should not play around the edges of the greens and courts. Non-members are not permitted to play on club grounds.
Parking: members should ensure that they do not park on the access road for the houses on Chamberlain Road. Parking rights there belong to the residents only. There is a possibility that infringements will result in vehicles being clamped as the residents have lost patience due to the number and frequency of infringements in the past.
Access to Courts and Greens: we have a very busy tennis section and only full tennis members are permitted to play on the tennis courts. However we are very keen to encourage all sections of the club to try bowling. During the bowling season spare bowls and equipment can be borrowed and members are welcome to try out their bowling skills. Coaching and social bowling evenings are organised by the bowling section. See noticeboards for details.
OTHER ISSUESAccess to non-members: WBLT welcomes non-members at special events throughout the year e.g music events and gala days. Non-members using the bar area should always be signed in by a member (our licence requires this). The signing-in book is on the bar.
Number of guests: adult members are permitted to invite guests during quiet times to use club facilities (maximum of three times per year). Guests returning on a regular basis will be expected to apply for membership.
Booking of rooms: There are a number of groups who use the areas of the clubhouse for club and social activities. All activities require approval from the Committee of Management. A diary to book space is kept behind the bar
Functions: members are welcome to book the clubhouse for functions particularly at times when the clubhouse is not busy e.g Saturday evenings or Sunday afternoons. Members wishing to book a function must complete the function information form and submit this to the Committee of Management for approval. Hockey Club InformationWBLT is the home of Hillhead Hockey Club. Hillhead is one of Scotland’s largest and welcomes players of all ages and abilities. The women’s club has 6 outdoor teams competing in National and District leagues and 3 indoor teams, whilst the men’s club currently fields 7 outdoor and 2 indoor teams. Both Clubs use Jordanhill School’s all-weather pitch for top home fixtures and spectators are welcome at all matches. Entry is free.
Hillhead Juniors meets on Sundays from 10am -12 at Windyedge (just off Anniesland Road) and caters for youngsters between the ages of 7 and 16, from beginners to more experienced players. There are regularly over 100 boys and girls at ‘Juniors’ and all receive excellent coaching in a safe and fun environment.

Kelvin RunnersWBLT is also home to the Kelvin Runners. Kelvin runners meet several times a week and welcome new runners and participants from other sections of the club to join their regular runs around Jordanhill for a fee of £1 a run.
